What are the main differences between the gearbox AWD/FWD 41TE/41AE

    I may have to repair an AWD gearbox from a Chrysler voyager AS. I was wondering, as the title say, what are the main difference between one with the driveshaft and one without. If you have any info, feel free to share !

    So basically it’s „just“ the differential and the attached. Power-Transfer-Unit.

    However, Transmission differ from year to year. Some people might say a AWD transmission has a different planetary drive than a FWD. Also the size of diffs differ, depending from application and Model Year.

    By the way, do you have any clue about an AWD gearbox without the reverse mode ? You really seem to know a lot about the Chrysler Voyager. I know it's pretty difficult to be a remote mechanic, but it could always be helpful to have an other point of view. (For information, the gearbox had a bad oil level and since then, the car still works forward. Backward, well, I'm here and I'm a bit afraid about the fact that I may have to open the gearbox).

    I don't really know too much about the gearboxes issue-wise. I can take them apart, portably be able to put it back together.
    However I have had so little issues with the A604 / 41TE that I don't really know how to diagnose it down to a component level (remote).

    In the Workshop Manual there should be a flow chart regarding common issues. Have you checked that?

    Sorry to keep you waiting!
    Yes, I no longer need the AWD transmission and can sell it (with the torque converter). The car was too rusted, but the transmission kept running until the very end. It was overhauled about 70,000 km ago by a Voyager mechanic in the Sauerland region.
    I’d like €600 for it, and I’d definitely deliver it to Aachen for free; delivery could take place between April 7 and 10. I’ll be swapping parts with Wolfram in Magdeburg then, but I haven’t asked him yet.
